Ministry "With"

The United Methodist Church has started a new initiative called Ministry "WITH" the Poor. Not for or to, but with. This program emphasizes the need for Christians to be more connected to those with whom we are in ministry, whether they are homeless, prostitutes, children, or underpaid workers. Being in ministry "with" means  the community works together. We have to stop glorifying ourselves for serving those in need, and seeing ourselves as superior because we are "giving" and they are "receiving". Ministry "with" involves simply living alongside others, experiencing a common experience, and participating in joys and struggles. There is no longer an "us" and "them." This video lays out a lot of this idea and to be honest just motivates me to action, maybe it will do the same for you.
